Visual Anthropology Workshop: Space, Place and Identity - Rovinj, Croatia

UNESCO Venice Office is supporting the fourth edition of the Visual Anthropology Workshop: Space, Place and Identity which will be held in Rovinj, Croatia, from 27 April to 3 May 2012. The event is organized by the Ethnographic Museum of Istria.

Objectives of the workshop are: to introduce participants to theoretical and methodological basics of visual anthropology through intensive and practical lectures; to enable participants to acquire technical basis of camera recording and using computer programs for film montage; enabling participants to independently use all current audio-visual media for the purpose of documenting and/or exploring cultural and social phenomena. Valorization and documenting of intangible cultural heritage – knowledge, skills, songs, stories, customs, and dialects – represent inevitable activities of every ethnographic museum, institution and individual involved in the ethnographic-anthropological field.

The aim of the workshop is to serve as a platform for examining relationships between phenomena within that which we define as intangible heritage and video materials as tools for documenting, presenting and preserving the aforementioned.
